How to Make a Pendant

A lot of people ask me how I make my jewelry so I decided to document one of several  techniques I use  to make a pendant and then share the process...so here goes!

First I start with a jewelers saw and use it to saw around the outline of the image...this pendant is being made out of recycled aluminum.

This is what it looks like after it is sawed out!

The next step is to hammer a pilot hole to drill later for your loop to go through

This is what the pilot hole looks like...this makes it much easier to drill the hole!

Next I stamp each individual letter by using this type of stamp and then hammer it into the metal

This one reads "Vegan"!

Now I go ahead and drill the hole!  I use a Foredom Flex shaft to do this with a really small drill bit!

Viola!

Now I sand and shape the outline of the piece with a small sanding disc and the flex shaft

Smooth out the sanded surface even more with an abrasive wheel

Then finish out with a small satin wheel!

Next I measure the length of the chain needed and attach the loops and clasp

Now it is time to solder all the loops!  I use a oxygen/acetylene set up with a Little Torch~that's a brand of torch by the way...:)

Then I do the final finish by smoothing and polishing of the loops with a polishing disc on the flexshaft

We are almost done...I just have to show it to Miss Julep the studio boss for final approval!

Julep says it's ready to go!   Yay!!!!
