Short answer: Nope!
Slightly longer very judgy answer: Nope & why would you want too?
It always baffles me that people want to wear their jewelry all the time...its like wearing socks to bed...so weird unless you are in Alaska or somewhere else that is "negative Kelvin" ie space cold(my one science joke- Psst there are no negatives when you hit absolute zero ie Kelvin LOL)
Anywaaaay, now the long answer which is a little more technical and you will find this answer from most all jewelers, So I did not make this stuff up and it applies to all jewelry whether it is sterling silver, aluminum, 14 kt gold or even costume jewelry.
Your jewelry will last a lot longer and not require repairs if you follow these tips. It is more ecological and economic to try to maintain the jewelry you have rather than risk breaking it and either having to get repairs (mo money) or just trashing it (bad for the earth)
Why nope to the Shower?
Remove all jewelry before showering or bathing. What a lot of people do not realize is that most public water supplies have chlorine in them which can cause damage to metals especially sterling silver, so unless you have a filter on your shower it is recommended to take your jewelry off first. Even with a filter though, soap can cause a film to form, making it appear dull and dingy and require much more cleaning and maintenance.
Nope for Swimming,Spas, etc.
Don't Wear Jewelry In Swimming Pools and Spas – You guessed it...Chlorinated water again! This can react with the metals found in jewelry causing color changes and even structural damage, ie Pitting in Sterling Silver. As a result it's a good idea to remove jewelry before entering the pool or spa.
Why nope to sleeping in jewelry?
Your jewelry should be the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night. That way, your necklace won’t get perfume on them (chemicals can cause damage) and your earrings won’t get caught in your clothes. It also helps prevent scratches and tangles, I recommend storing in the small plastic baggie that comes with your order when not wearing.
Added note: Put Jewelry On After Applying Makeup – Cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes and lotion as these can contain chemicals that can often damage jewelry. Putting jewelry on after applying these materials will limit exposure to jewelry and any potential damage.
CARING FOR STERLING SILVER JEWELRY
Clean your sterling silver jewelry with a soft 100% cotton (nub free) cloth or flannel cloth and gently rub off any excess makeup. Remember, silver is a very soft metal and you can scratch it if you aren't careful so don't rub it too briskly. Never use anything but a clean 100% cotton or a special sterling silver cleaning cloth (a popular choice is Sunshine Polishing Cloth) Paper, polyester, and coarse fabrics often contain wood fibers or synthetics that can cause tiny scratches in the surface of your fine sterling silver jewelry. Dirt left over from previous cleanings can scratch the surface as well.
CARING FOR ALUMINUM JEWELRY
Aluminum is very tarnish resistant but it is best to keep your aluminum jewelry away from corrosive chemicals like chlorine, bleach, acids, and drain cleaning solutions to prevent your jewelry from oxidizing and losing luster. To clean wash with a gentle dish soap and water, then pat dry with a clean cloth.
